What Is Not Compostable? 
These items should not go into your kitchen compost bucket or Blue Bag Organics liner. They do not compost:

Twist ties		Styrofoam
Aluminum foil		Personal sanitary products
Foil-lined cartons, containers or packaging		Diapers or wipes
Cooking oils, fats, or grease		Pet droppings or kitty litter
Staples		Glass or metal
Plastics		Clothes
Rocks or bricks		Cigarette butts

Compostable but…

Yard waste (grass clippings, flowers, leaves, brush, or branches)		Recyclable paper or paperboard
Milk, juice and soup cartons (plastic spout removed)

Recyclable paper and paperboard should not be placed in your Blue Bag Organics liner, unless it is needed to help absorb runny discarded food waste.

Recyclable paper and paperboard, as well as milk, juice and soup cartons (plastic spout removed), typically are picked up separately along with other recyclables. If these materials are not recyclable in your community, they can be placed in your Blue Bag Organics liner.

Yard waste (grass clippings, flowers, leaves, brush and branches) should not be placed in your Blue Bag Organics liner.

If your community has a yard waste recycling program, yard waste typically is picked up in a separate yard waste cart.

Blue Bag Organics programs in some communities may require households to place the hand-tied Blue Bag Organics liner into the yard waste cart on collection day, rather than in the trash cart.
